The modern Bach
„Er ist der Vater, wir sind die Bub’n. Wer von uns was Rechts kann, hat von ihm gelernt.“ (Mozart 1789 about C.P.E. Bach)
(He's the father, we are the children. One who is skilled, learned from him.)
Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach worked and lived in Hamburg for more than 20 years. Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven saw him as an idol. The cultural movement of "Sturm und Drang" would not exist without him. The traces of his influence in the "Wiener Klassik" are numerous, his "Versuch über die wahre Art das Clavier zu spielen" (An Essay on the tue nature of playing the Piano) was the favored textbook of the epoch. He was a star of the 18th century. However, in the 19th century his father started to take center stage. Since then, his compositions were only known by few.
