Happy Birthday: Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach *1714
Wilhelm Friedemann Bach Sinfonia F-major for strings
Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach Concerto B-major for oboe Wq 164
Johann Christoph Friedrich Bach Sinfonia d-minor for strings
Johann Christian Bach Concerto F-major for oboe C 80
Had Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach been able to counter human understandings of time, and could have celebrated his 300th birthday on 8th March, 2014, a travel guide to Essen would have been a useful present. Johann Sebastian's second son had never travelled to Essen. He spent his life in East and North Germany, specifically Weimar, Leipzig, Frankfurt/Oder, Berlin, Potsdam and Hamburg. Essen's Folkwang Chamber orchestra celebrates with these six Bach-cities and the conductor Reinhard Goebel and the oboist Christina Beindorf this grand jubelee. His father Johann Sebastian and his three brothers, Wilhelm Friedemann, Johann Christoph Friedrich and Johann Christian are of course celebrating with us.
You will hear two wonderful oboe-concerts, which pay tribute to the popular instrument with beautiful sounds.
The concert ends with two sinfonias, a genre that was established in the 18th century.
