The fact that Friedrich the Great chose the flute as his favorite instrument, resulted in an important re-evaluation of that particular wind instrument. Or at least you may say that many composers, including grandmaster JS Bach and his son CPEB whos 300th birthday is celebrated this year, have created grand pieces of music exclusively for the flute since then. This phenomenon was observed internationally: sonatas by french composers, particularly by Francis Poulencs, are considered to be the most captivating and enchanting compositions created for the flute.
